Learning – Curriculum

Enrolment into Ocean Grove Primary School

Music Program

In the Performing Arts classroom at Ocean Grove Primary School, I strive to incorporate a diverse range of teaching and learning styles for maximum engagement. I believe learning should be an enjoyable and engaging journey for all students. Learning experiences are positive, hands-on and as participative as possible.

My program takes a learner-led approach which promotes firstly, lots and lots of music making but also innovation, inclusion, diversity and of course creativity. All students should be treated equally, but some students require alternative strategies to engage and motivate their learning. Students have the opportunities to learn skills in percussion, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, recorder, ukulele, keyboard, guitar, bass and various drums.

To make it a true performing arts room, for one term each year we concentrate on drama and our concert term is heavily based around dance. For Years 5 and 6 students there is there chance to be a part of the school rock band New Generation, focussing on honing their skills, musicianship and performance. For students from Years 3-6 there are opportunities to be a part of our lunch time singing group the Ocean Groovers who enjoy going out and busking a couple of times a year and a newly created drumming group

I have a true passion for my subject and have been a performing musician since I was 5.
