OCEAN GROVE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Physical Education

Buckle up your seat belt and strap yourself in for one of the best rides to be had in physical education. OGPS is blessed with the best facilities available in a primary school that you could wish for. These include a magnificent indoor stadium incorporating official courts for basketball, netball, volleyball and tennis as well as providing an indoor space for teaching skill practices to all year levels in all seasons of the year.

Couple these up with a staff that is creative, innovative, competitive but also nurturing and you have the physical education experience for every child.

Beginning with skills practices in the early years, minor games skills in the mid and full blown competition in a range of sports in the senior years OGPS is your supermarket of physical education catering for every age and ability level.

Our school participates in interschool sporting competitions in as many sports as we can squeeze in, these include AFL football, soccer, netball, t ball, volleyball, athletics, basketball, swimming, tennis and tournaments by invitation such as State netball titles, Hoops Victoria and Tennis Australia.

Each year our levels from year level three upwards participate in the Learning to Swim activity for one week at the beautiful indoor heated pool at Geelong College. The indoor facility and warmth of the water maximizes the enjoyment and thus the learning of all our students.

The physical education department of the school has applied at every opportunity for School Sport Victoria grants to zone in on particular sports and leisure activities. In the past we have had a three week intensive tennis program from a professional teacher, a full week of an introduction to surfing which complimented our end of year level six intensive surf tuition program. This program was installed some years ago to replace year six swimming and assist with awareness of where we live and how to treat the sea. This year we were to have a three week program of lawn bowls which everyone is particularly excited about. As you can garner from this text we love our physical education and sports at OGPS.

Our staff know that each child is better off   with a fine balance of academic and sporting activities and caters for the extremes of each, those children who are not that “sporty’ and those that live for sport.

So come on, learn , play and have fun with us.
